OUT OF BOUNDS

Because Martin and I lost the physical presence of our son, we are very aware of trying not to over step any bounds as grandparents. Doesn't mean we won't cross any, just means we are aware of them. It's hard for any grandparent to not cross boundaries that hasn't had the tremendous loss we have experienced, so Martin and I have to work extra hard not to. But since it was done to me, I kind of have an idea what it feels like having boundaries crossed ALL of the time in the beginning, so I am very aware of my boundaries as a grandparent. SO I keep reminding myself, I am the GRANDparent, I am the GRANDparent, I am the GRANDparent! Just when you finally figured out this parenting thing, you get to be a grandparent not the parent. No complaints here, I'll take it! To be able to see life through a child's eyes again is so exciting for us and worth staying in bounds for.

Now that it is getting close to Kaliana's arrival, vaccinations is the topic of conversation. It's a heated one to say the least. I posted on my Facebook wall asking what people thought either way. It was quite a hot thread.

Elatia asked that Martin do his kind of research on the topic because she trusts him with Martin having been a research chemist and could make more sense of the reports made about vaccinations. What he found was not pretty. If we had our say, we would NOT vaccinate Kalinana, but that is not our decision. Elatia and JR got into their first argument over this.

JR is pretty much a muggle, I know he thinks we are nuts half the time with our woo woo, metaphysical, holistic ways, but his daughter will definitely give him a run for his money! He is in for quite the awakening of what truly is with Kaliana. When she talks about her conversations with her Uncle Andrew, her Angels and Guides, I wanna see the look on his face.

Now,our role as grandparents in my opinion, is to help keep peace and harmony even in tough situations. We are here to support our children to be the best parents they can be, and be better parents than we were. We are also here to help relieve the stress of parenthood. Well, that is my intention anyway. The vaccination situation is the perfect example. We are not here to push our beliefs on Elatia and JR but to give them the facts, answer their questions the best we can and let them make an informed decision as Kaliana's parents. I don't want them to fight over this. I believe once Elaita and JR are informed, they can then discuss what is best for their daughter, and Martin and I will support them no matter what that decision is. That is what being a good grandparent means to me, being supportive. No out of bounds for me! Well, not on a regular basis anyway. ;-)

IT'S ALL GOOD IN THE GRAMMY-HOOD
